Lucky Beginnings
Yoshinoya actually began more than a century ago (1899, to be exact). Eikichi Matsuda, who then created a really yummy version of Gyudon, decided to sell his dish in an affordable manner. Considering this high-end dish now catered to the public, Matsuda tapped into a big and interested market.
Establishing his restaurant in a fish market (which ìs accessible to his target market), Matsuda’s restaurant became a famous spot to visit. Even today, Yoshinoya continues to create wonderful dishes with prices that won’t break the bank.
Surprisingly (in a good manner!), Matsuda’s first shop is still open today! And aside from his wonderful dishes, it may be attested that this restaurant’s success may also stem from its founder’s hard work and creativity – Yoshinoya, when read in kanji, means luck – and what a great streak of luck this brand has!
